I have had acne since my late teenage years, I am now 27. Very tired of looking at it. I've tried proactiv, and all sorts of over the counter treatments, and I hate taking oral medications for fear of side effects. Is there a non-invasive approach to dealing with acne? Is an antibiotic treatment regimen really helpful or will it just be a waste of my time and only make me more bacteria-resistant?What is a truly effective treatment for adult acne?
Sorry to hear that you have such serious problems with acne.
It's not fun. I've been there.
First of all you need to forget medicines and antibiotics. They only offer a temporary relief and often cause more harm than good. The same goes with most of the OTC treatments.
The good news is that acne is relatively simple to fix - once you know what causes it and how to deal with it.
First you need to understand what causes acne. If you said bacteria and sebum you are 90% wrong. Yes, they are part of the equation, but only a small part. Focusing on them will not get you clear - as I'm sure you know.
Acne is a complicated condition and it doesn't have a single cause. To explain it in detail would take too much space here. So I'll just give you a heavily summarized version.
Your body is in a state of imbalance. These imbalances mess up with your hormone levels and trigger the skin to produce too much sebum. They also weaken the immune system and p.acnes bacteria gets out of control. They interfere with food digestion and abortion. So you don't get the beneficial nutrients from the food you eat.
For more detailed explanation I suggest that you take a look at this page: http://www.natural-acne-solution.com/wha鈥?/a>
To cure acne the only thing you have to do is to bring your body back into balance.
You need to tackle it on many fronts:
- diet
- exercise
- maintain positive mental attitude
- detox and give your body some time to repair the damage
At first blush that may sound like a lot, but it's much easier that you may think now. And once you get to it you'll notice that your acne disappears on its own. No pills or creams required.

I suffered from Acne for about 3 years and not able to find out a single product that works on my skin. After trying Derma Cleanse acne treatment system also known as the 3 step system has,I stop searching for any other product as it works on my skin.
As per Zenmded this product works from the inside out and stimulate immune system in order to destroy radicals and bacteria that causes acne. In end it helps me to cure acne breakouts.
It recommends to use the acne cleanser for at least 4 weeks at the full dosage. The effects varies from person to person but you should be able to see the results usually from week 5 to week 8. Thanks Zenmed for such a useful product. Really amazed with results.
Hey First Time Mommy,
You obviously have done your homework and know that finding effective treatments for adult acne is not as simple as many companies would have you believe.
Proactiv and many over the counter treatments DO work ... for some people ... for awhile ... but are only treating the symptoms, not the cause. And you are very correct in being concerned about antibiotics and their long-term side effects ... some of which do not even manifest themselves until years later when it is too late to ';cut your losses';, so to speak.
Adult acne is most likely caused by a hormonal imbalance and can be triggered by different things in different people. To use an extreme example, a person who is severely allergic to peanuts could actually die from exposure to just a trace of peanuts or peanut oil.
Similarly, your acne could be being caused by some single ingredient in the food you eat. So while it is now generally accepted that ';chocolate doesn't cause acne';, if your acne is triggered by milk, then the milk in most chocolate (read the labels!) could be what's causing your acne and not the chocolate itself.
Check out http://www.myfacemyface.com/proactive-acne-treatment-procedures.html for the best adult acne ebook.
While topical treatments do have their place and some people prefer the ';easy way out'; by using antibiotics or stronger prescribed drugs, I applaud you in your search to find a more healthy and natural way of dealing with your adult acne.
Good Luck,
Abby
